RKD Web Studios uses Twitter for ASAP communicating

January 13, 2010

Over the last year, many organizations began utilizing Twitter for various reasons. Some use it to improve SEO strategy, others to communicate messages and information and some have just been curious to set up an account to see what would happen. We were tempted to join the leagues of "Tweeters" months ago, but RKD really wanted to make sure that Twitter fit, with purpose, into our daily communications stream. We didn't want to abandon the account days after setting it up!

We offer you our Twitter presence as a free tool to keep up-to-date on items that affect you and your website and your online marketing presence.

Thom Ellsom, the Director of IT for RKD Web Studios, felt that Twitter was an effective real-time tool to communicate any server upgrade or technical information to our clients. "We tend to communicate technology or server upgrades via email lists. We will still do that moving forward, but if some of our clients would like real-time updates, Twitter allows us to communicate to our followers right away. Whether the client is at their desk in the office, or on their Blackberry or iPhone on-the-go, Twitter provides us with a means of instant communication." Ellsom says, "We rarely experience server or email issues. There are times, however, when a server upgrade or technical event will affect our entire client base. If there is a global issue that affects email or website status, we want to be able to communicate that in a medium that isn't dependent on those tools.  The Twitter.com/RKDWebStudios account does not rely on our servers; therefore, we can post global server status updates there, and a client will be able to access them instantly."

RKD's Twitter account will also be used for communicating project launches, employment offerings, relevant local and international technical reporting, upcoming events, and general items of interest.
